Lightning strikes 2 boys in Norfolk
NORFOLK - Two boys sitting under a tree were struck by lightning during a fast-moving storm Monday afternoon.
Matthew Holsey, 11, and Michael Abrams, 14, were in critical condition at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, said Jack Goldhorn, spokesman for the Norfolk fire department.
The extent of their injuries was not immediately known. Goldhorn said the boys were knocked unconscious but had regained consciousness by the time they arrived at the hospital.
The boys were in Abrams' back yard when the storm passed through.
Abrams' mother, who was watching from a window, saw the lightning strike them and called 911, Goldhorn said.

Wife shotgunned; husband surrenders
HALIFAX - A Halifax County man turned himself in to police Sunday for the shotgun slaying of his wife.
Robert Lewis Clay, 48, came to the county sheriff's office just before 11:30 a.m., said Maj. Ray Link of the sheriff's department.
``He walked up to Lieutenant E.E. Powell and told him he had just shot his wife,'' Link said.
Authorities took Clay into custody and went to the couple's home, where they found 46-year-old Joy Noell Clay dead. Link said she had apparently been shot twice with a shotgun, once in the left arm and once in the neck and chest.
Clay told police that he and his wife had been arguing.
Link said the couple had a history of domestic trouble, and that he had arrested Clay about a year ago for spousal abuse. He said Clay was found guilty of the charge but was not sentenced to any jail time.
Clay works as a technician for Virginia Power and Joy Noell Clay was a bus driver for the Halifax County schools. The couple had one adult child, who lives in the Hampton area, Link said.
Clay is being held in the Halifax County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bond and a preliminary hearing has been scheduled for October, Link said.
