He has been Radford's president for a little over a year.

"I like to be visible and accessible to students, because if you don't maintain a dialogue with them, you're cutting yourself from a wellspring of ideas," Covington said.

"I want to know how I can help them to achieve what they want from the university experience. The ultimate compliment is when students come to me and say that we on the faculty and staff are doing a good job."

Hurlburt and her office deal with inquiries and suggestions from students and parents on issues such as the Greek system, off-campus living and student conduct concerns.

Phillips supervises the university's state-certified law enforcement agency, which is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. "It's our duty to provide a safe environment, as much as humanly possible, for the students, staff and visitors," Phillips said. Several offices come under his supervision: Counseling, disabled student services, student support services and substance abuse and sexual assault education. Counselors handle any initial adjustment problems students may have, such as studying habits and roommate situations.
