The Student Health Centers at Radford University and Virginia Tech suggest that every student keep a first-aid kit in their room to handle minor emergencies.

Here are some suggestions:

Antibiotic ointment

Antiseptic

Anti-diarrheal/nausea medication

Band-Aids

Cold medicine

Copy of insurance card

Cough medicine

Full semester's supply of any long-term medication

Ibuprofen

Sunscreen

Thermometer

Tweezers

Be aware of allergies and allergic reactions to medications as well any illnesses in the family's history such as heart disease, cancer and diabetes.
