By law, money collected for parking tickets has to go back into parking maintenance and cannot be used for anything else. In the past five years, parking services has spent nearly $5 million on parking maintenance, including paving the "B" lot behind Cowgill and Whittemore halls, said Curtis Lynch, parking services manager. The university also has increased the number of parking spaces from 9,878 in 1989 to about 13,000.
