LOGGING ACCIDENT KILLS CHRISTIANSBURG MAN

A 39-year-old Christiansburg man was killed Tuesday morning when a portion of a tree hit him in the abdomen while he was cutting through the tree with a chain saw.

Lt. Neal Turner of the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office said he would not release the man's name or employer pending notification of the victim's family.

The dead man's co-worker called 911 about the logging accident at 11:24 a.m. Authorities went to a wooded area off Taylor Hollow Road in the Ellett Valley and found the victim already dead, Turner said.

Turner said witnesses told police the man was cutting a large oak tree that had already been felled when part of the tree kicked back and hit the man in the abdomen. The impact caused massive internal injuries.
