3 ROBBERIES REPORTED MONDAY IN ROANOKE

A 74-year-old man was robbed in his motor home late Monday by a man hiding in the back of the vehicle.

Thomas William Musselwhite left a bar in the 1900 block of Orange Avenue Northeast about 10:30 p.m. As he got into the driver's seat of his motor home, he was grabbed around the neck and hit several times in the face, Roanoke police said. The man told Musselwhite he was getting back at him, then took Musselwhite's wallet.

Musselwhite suffered cuts to his nose and chin. He was unable to give police a description of the man.

Police reported these other incidents from Monday:

* A motorist who pulled into a South Roanoke County apartment complex was robbed about 10 p.m.

Roanoke County police said Kun Li, 34, was going to the Copper Croft Apartments at 4333 Electric Road to visit a friend. A man walked up to her open passenger-side window and asked for a cigarette. Police said Li said she did not smoke, then tried to close the window and screamed for help. But the man reached inside, grabbed Li's shoulder and took her purse.

The man fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of money.

* About 3:35 p.m., a man was robbed while trying to make a deposit at Central Fidelity Bank at Towers Shopping Center. Roanoke police said the robber fled toward Brandon Avenue Southwest and was seen minutes later on Kerns Avenue Southwest. A detective later saw the robber a few blocks away at Hamilton Avenue and Eighth Street Southwest. The robber fled, dropping several $20 bills. He later was seen in the 900 block of Howbert Avenue but eluded police once again.
