GIRL LIED ABOUT KIDNAP ATTEMPT

A 9-year-old North Roanoke County girl who told police a man tried to abduct her over the weekend has admitted that she lied.

During an interview with police, the girl said she was "afraid of getting in trouble because she was in a place she wasn't supposed to be in," said Roanoke County Detective S.C. Sturgill. Police would not elaborate on where the girl was or what she was doing.

The girl reported that a man in a red car tried to grab her as she played outside her house on the 4000 block of Bradshaw Road at about 8 p.m. Saturday. Police said the girl told them she screamed and that the man let her go when her aunt called her to come in for the night.

No charges will be filed against her, according to police.
