ROBBER LED A MERRY FOOT CHASE 48 HOURS AFTER RUN, POLICE MAKE ARREST

The robber led police on a foot chase through Roanoke's Wasena neighborhood, discarding $20 bills and the red shirt he wore. He eluded officers for nearly 48 hours.

On Wednesday, detectives made an arrest.

Ellis Price Wilson, 40, was charged with robbing an S&S Cafeteria manager Monday afternoon as he made a bank deposit at the Central Fidelity Bank in Towers Mall.

Roanoke police would not talk about what led them to Wilson.

But they had been looking for the robbery suspect since 3:35 p.m. Monday when a man wearing a red shirt and shorts grabbed the money bag from an S&S Cafeteria manager. The robber fled to Brandon Avenue Southwest and was seen on Kerns, Hamilton and Howbert avenues several minutes after the crime.

Officers on foot and in cars swarmed the area but were unable to catch up with him.

Just before noon Wednesday, detectives arrested Wilson at his home on the 900 block of Ferdinand Avenue Southwest.

They also served Wilson with another robbery warrant, charging him with taking $200 from a 20-year-old neighbor early Aug. 14.

Wilson, who also is awaiting trial on a charge that he stole his former girlfriend's purse as she left for work, remained in Roanoke City Jail without bond.
