A masked man armed with a handgun robbed a Roanoke County convenience store Tuesday night.
About 10:30 p.m. a man wearing what appeared to be a homemade purple ski mask walked into the Super Mart at 3660 Colonial Ave. He pointed a handgun at the clerk and demanded money. When the clerk did not react fast enough, he hit her in the head with the butt of the gun, Roanoke County Capt. Ray Lavinder said.
After she gave an undisclosed amount of money to the robber, he fled on foot.
Police are not certain if Tuesday's incident is linked to several other ski-mask robberies in Roanoke and an attempted one in Roanoke County two weekends ago. The time of the incident and the robbers' masks were similar. In Roanoke there were two masked robbers - one who wore a yellow mask and another who wore an orange mask. In Roanoke County, the man who tried to rob a fast food restaurant wore an orange ski mask. But Tuesday night's robber had different physical characteristics than the robbers in the other incidents, Lavinder said.
