THE AVALANCHE stop a three-game skid with a 2-1 road win over the Bulls.
Tal Light went 2-for-4 and smacked a home run as the Salem Avalanche ended a three-game losing streak with a 2-1 victory over the Durham Bulls in a Carolina League baseball game on Wednesday night.
The Bulls (70-63) opened the scoring in the bottom of the third inning when second baseman Mike Eglin singled off Chandler Martin, advanced to third on an errant throw by Avalanche catcher Mike Higgins and later scored on a wild pitch by Martin.
Light tied the score in the top of the fourth with his 11th homer of the season.
Salem (60-71) sealed the win in the top of the ninth when pinch hitter Blake Barthol drove in Chan Mayber with a single to left. Mayber had come in as a pinch runner for Light, who had reached on a single.
Todd Genke (8-6) allowed two hits and walked one in two innings to pick up the win. Jeff Sobkoviak pitched one-third of an inning for his ninth save.
Steve Shoemaker (2-6, 4.56 ERA) will take the mound for Salem when the teams face off again today.
