Seth McKinley, Washington and Lee's starting tailback, broke a bone in his right foot Thursday and is expected to be unable to play football for the next four weeks.
McKinley was second-team All-ODAC as a freshman in 1994, when he ran for 667 yards, the bulk of which came in the last five weeks of the season. He ran for 514 yards in 1995 despite playing in only four games because of two shoulder injuries. In 12 games, the junior has run for 1,181 yards.
The top two tailbacks behind McKinley are 5-11, 175-pound senior John Marshall and 5-4, 155-pound sophomore Floyd Young, one of the fastest players on the team.
``I'm very unhappy for Seth,'' said Frank Miriello, the Generals' coach. ``Obviously, it's a loss, but based on what I saw in practice this morning, the two supposed back-ups rose to a new level and that's the positive. That negative is that we lose our star tailback.''
McKinley was sliding laterally in a drill during morning calisthenics when he broke the foot. He broke a different bone in the same foot this past spring while studying in Italy. If doctors insert a pin in the foot, that could allow him to return in four weeks. McKinley is expected to miss games against Ursinus on Sept.14 and against Guilford on Sept.28.
