WALLET SLIPS RIGHT OUT OF ROBBER'S HAND

A butterfingered robber tried to snatch the wallet of a 70-year-old man at a Southwest Roanoke food store Thursday.

Josh Wilson was at the Patterson Market at 1301 Patterson Avenue about 6:30 p.m. When he took out his wallet to pay for his food, police said, a man wearing a white baseball cap grabbed the wallet. But the robber dropped the wallet as he fled. The wallet and its contents were recovered.

On Friday, two teen-agers were petitioned to Roanoke Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court on robbery charges. Police think the 16-year-old and 17-year-old boys are connected with the Aug. 16 robbery of the Express Stop Food Mart No.3 at 527 Orange Ave. N.E.

One of the robbers remained at the door, while the other approached the clerk, threatened to assault him and demanded money. The two robbers fled the store with the money.
