BALLENGEE, Eleanor Hypes, 60, of Blacksburg, was called to be with the Lord from her home on Thursday, August 29, 1996. She was preceded in death by her father, Ira S. Hypes. She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Kathleen F. Hypes of Newport; her husband, Charles L. (``Chuck"") Ballengee of Blacksburg; her daughter, Annette Ballengee of Morehead City, N.C.; a brother and sister-in-law, Nelson and Janice Hypes, and nephew, Jimmy Hypes, all of Newport. Other family members include brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Harold and Phoebe Stacy of Apopka, Fla., Richard and Jo Ann Ballengee, Peggy B. Duncan and Carolyn B. Sult, all of Christiansburg, and Bonnie B. Pack of North Myrtle Beach, S.C. Mrs. Ballengee was employed by Litton Poly-Scientific for 38 years. She was a member of Slussers Chapel Church of God, where she held the office of treasurer of the Women of the Church of God for many years and was a faithful member of the church choir. Her extraordinary leadership and organizational skills were instrumental to the success of many church and Mt. Tabor community activities. Visitation will be Saturday, August 31, at Slussers Chapel from 3 to 9 p.m. The family will receive friends beginning at 6 p.m., with a memorial service to begin at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 1, 1996, at Slussers Chapel, with the Rev. Richard Gilbert officiating. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Contributions in memory of Mrs. Ballengee may be made to Slussers Chapel, 1543 Mt. HOBACK, Hazel Epperley, of Salem, died Friday, August 30, 1996 in Lewis Gale Hospital. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles H. Epperley; her husband, John H. Hoback; and sister, Reba L. Epperley. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Corinne and Harry Bur nette, Roanoke ; her niece and husband, Donna and Rick Melton; and great-niece, Ashley Melton, all of Reedsville, N.C. She retired from the Veterans Administration after 30 years of service to open Marizel's Flowers. She sold that business in 1980. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday at Oakey's South Chapel with the Rev. William C. Logan officiating. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. HUFFMAN, Ruby H., 89, of Buena Vista, died Friday, August 30, 1996, at the Shenandoah Valley Health Care Center. Born in Rockbridge County on July 8, 1907, she was the daughter of the late John Edward and Mattie Camden Huffman. She was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church, and was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Robert Huffman; and her son, Penn Huffman. She is survived by a sister, Ruth Huffman Sandidge, Buena Vista; an d a number of nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 1, 1996, at Lomax Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Edward H. Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. MEEK, Mattie Pauline, 80 of Waynesboro, died early Thursday morning, August 29, 1996, at her home. She was born in Augusta County, the daughter of Jacob and Dora Mason Gayhart. She was a member of Smyrna Presbyterian Church in Dooms. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, John Franklin Meek, Sr., and a son, John Franklin Meek, Jr. Surviving her are six daughters, Mrs. Gerald (Sylvia) Boone of Boones Mill, VA, Mrs. Hugh (Stella Batten) of Ruckersville, Mrs. Buddy (Carolyn) Craig of Grottoes, Mr. Danny (Betty Jo) Cash of Crimora, Mrs. Grover (Dora) Peery and Miss Debora Gail Meek of Waynesboro; five sons, Robert M. Meek of Crimora, David M. Randolph P. and Kenneth L. Meek all of Waynesboro, and Lloyd S. Meek of Greenville; also, 25 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. A service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel of McDow Funeral Home by the Rev. Will Heyward. Burial will follow at Augusta Memorial Park. Grandsons will serve as active pallbearers, and the other grandchildren will be honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday, and of other times at the residence. SHEWEY, Bessie Florence, 95, of Bland, died Friday, August 30, 1996, in the Malin Health Care Center. She was the daughter of the late John and Florence Pickle Shewey. She is survived by one sister, Dorothy Shewey Hall of Economy, Ind., and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Bland Community Church, conducted by the Rev. STANLEY, Durward M., 88, of Roanoke, died Friday, August 30, 1996. He was a native and lifetime resident of Roanoke, and was a graduate of Jefferson High School and attended V.P.I. Mr. Stanley was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church and a longtime choir member. He was continuously active in Council and other committees of the church. He was also a former Sunday School Teacher. He was retired President and co-owner of Virginia Ventilated Awning Company and Stanley-Shores Company. Mr. Stanley was past President of the North Roanoke Rotary Club and he was an Army Air Corp Veteran of World War II. Surviving is his wife, Mrs. Elinor Benson Stanley; sons and daughter-in-law, D. Benson Stanley, Roanoke, Kevin F. and Dianne D. Stanley, Richmond; daughter and son-in-law, Robin S. and Jim J. Konieczny, Charlotte, N.C.; grandchildren, Eric Stanley, Davis Stanley, Meredith Stanley, Sarah Konieczny; cousin, Mrs. Dorothy Browning and her sons, Michael and Antony. Services will be at Christ Lutheran Church at 1 p.m. Tuesday, September 3, 1996. The Rev. Mark Radecke and the Rev. Robin Henrickson will officiate. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. WALDRON, Richard Dickie, 61, of Narrows, died Frid ay morning, August 30, 1996, at Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg. Born in Narrows, he was a son of the late Dennis Wilburn and Kathryn Lucas Waldron. Dickie was a member of North Narrows Tabernacle Apostolic Faith and was self employed as a cement contractor. Surviving are his wife, Shirley Blankenship Waldron; two sons, Larry Dean Waldron of Dublin and Richard Lee Waldron of Narrows; two daughters, Sheila Ann Waldron and Melissa Cleo Weiss of Narrows; three brothers, Jack Waldron of Pearisburg, Billy Waldron of Narrows and Johnny Waldron of Rich Creek; one sister, Betty Kitts of Pulaski, and five grandchildren, Sarah Jarrells, Elisha Jarrells, Justin Waldron, Jason Waldron and Jared Weiss. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Kendall Funeral Home Chapel in Pembroke, with the Rev. Paul Terry and the Rev. Eddie Kendall officiating. Burial will be in Angels Rest Memory Gardens in Narrows. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday.
