Roanoke Gas names 2 executives
ED PAINTER has been named director of customer service for Roanoke Gas Co. He previously was manager of Bluefield Gas Co., a company subsidiary. He has spent nine years with the gas company, the last five years in Bluefield.
JIM SHOCKLEY succeeds Painter as manager of Bluefield Gas. He was an engineering technician with Roanoke Gas and has been with the company for more than 12 years.
Roanoke Gas Co. distributes natural gas in the Roanoke Valley and Bluefield and propane in the Roanoke Valley, Southwestern Virginia and southern West Virginia.
COMPUTERS
SUSAN MELSON has been promoted to vice president of ADS Software in Roanoke. Melson joined ADS in 1991 as a customer service representative and most recently was sales manager.
CONSULTING
PAUL BLAIKLOCK has established Blaiklock Consulting Co. in Roanoke to provide marketing consulting services to clients in Lynchburg and Roanoke, mainly technology companies that are developing new products for industrial and commercial markets. Blaiklock has 19 years of marketing experience with several international companies, including Texas Instruments and General Signal. He most recently worked for five years for B&W Nuclear Technologies, now Framatome Technologies, in Lynchburg.
MANUFACTURING
RICHARD DOWNING, has joined Bassett Furniture Industries Inc. as vice president of national accounts, where he will direct core product sales activity of major accounts in the United States. Downing worked at Cone Decorative Fabrics, a division of Greensboro, N.C.- based Cone Mills, for 14 1/2 years and was president of the company for the past 2 1/2 years.
Also at Bassett Furniture, PETER MORRISON has been promoted to director of advertising. He formerly was communications and advertising manager. He came to Bassett from the Martinsville Bulletin, where he was a copy and graphics editor. Before that, he was a news reporter for WSLS-TV in Roanoke.
D. LEE RANKIN has been promoted to vice president of sales and marketing at North American Housing Corp. The Boones Mill company produces and sells modular building components for residential builders.
NONPROFITS
JUDY H. EVANS, Festival Park coordinator in Greensboro, N.C., has been named marketing coordinator at Virginia's Explore Park. In the newly created position, she will manage the advertising, promotion and special events programs at the living history park effective Sept. 23. Before her coordinator's job, she was director of advertising and promotion for the Greensboro Coliseum Complex between 1988 and 1992.
Also, GREG LARSON has been hired as the park's agricultural interpreter and JO ANN BURRIER has been named office assistant.
