Cornerback Larry Green is not enrolled at Virginia Tech for the fall semester and will not play for the Hokies' football team this 1996 season.
Green is expected to use his redshirt season and return to the field in 1997. Coach Frank Beamer has named sophomore Loren Johnson as the No.1 cornerback. Green had 27 tackles, three interceptions and broke up eight passes in 1995. He broke up four passes for the Hokies in the Sugar Bowl win over Texas. Green also returned 23 punts for 208 yards.

VMI quarterback Al Lester completed 12 of 17 passes for 149 yards to lead the Red team to a 38-14 victory over the White team on Saturday in the Keydets' final preseason scrimmage.
Senior tailback Thomas Haskins had eight carries for 72 yards and two touchdowns for the Red team and Jabarr Bean rushed seven times for 64 yards.
Linebackers Mike Rogers and Kelly Cook led the defense with eight tackles each. VMI opens the season against Ole Miss at 7 p.m. Sept.7 in Jackson, Miss.
The Roanoke College men's cross country team defeated Eastern Mennonite 17-34 and the women's team won 25-32.
Brad Reeves (Salem) was the overall winner on the men's side with a time of 16:35 and David Angell (Franklin County) finished third. Shelli Stevens finished third for the women with a time of 22:41.
The top-ranked University of Virginia's men's soccer team posted a 4-0 victory over Old Dominion in their season opener before a crowd of 4,260 at Klockner Stadium.
The Cavaliers (1-0) outshot the Monarchs (0-1) 20-4 for the game. Brian West and Andriy Shapowal scored in the first half, while Bill Lanza and Ben Olsen tallied goals in the second.
The VMI men's soccer team was victimized by freshman Duncan Gladwin's hat trick in a 3-2 loss to Mount St. Mary's in the semifinal round of the Chase Manhattan Mortgage Mount Soccer Classic in Emmitsburg, Md. Richard Daughtridge and Mark Bryant tallied second-half goals for the Keydets (0-1).
