William Alfred Jones' son has been accused of robbing and murdering a Langley airman, but Jones is paying the price. His landlord is trying to evict him.
Jones' eviction letter says he has violated a section of his lease that requires tenants, their families and their guests to ``conduct themselves in a lawful manner'' and not disturb their neighbors' ``peaceful enjoyment of the premises or assault, threaten or use abusive language toward any person on or about the premises.''
He's alsoJones is worried he won't easily be able to find another suitable apartment.
``It's hard to find an apartment that's handicapped equipped,'' said Jones, 49, an Army veteran who uses a wheelchair because his right leg was amputated last year as a result of artery disease.
Jones says he is not behind on his rent and he was not aware of any complaints management had with him until now.
The letter was left on his front door Aug. 21 - the day detectives came looking for his 26-year-old son, William A. Jones.
Jones doesn't see how he is to blame for a crime allegedly committed by his son, or why he should be asked to vacate his apartment within 30 days. The crime was not committed at the apartment complex.
The assistant manager at the Sacramento Townhouse Apartments who signed the eviction letter declined to discuss the situation.
She referred questions to Riverdale Management Company, where employee Arthur Rosenblum said the company's lawyer had instructed staff not to make any comments.
Airman 1st Class Eric Michael Nesbitt was found in a remote area west of Yorktown Aug. 17. He had been shot eight times in the arms, stomach and back.
Phillip Atkins, the father of the other man charged with the crime, Daryl R. Atkins, also has received an eviction notice. He could not be reached for comment.
