RECENT SHOOTINGS AT U.S. HOSPITALS

Sept. 20, 1991 - Richard Worthington killed a nurse and held eight other people hostage at Alta View Hospital in Sandy, Utah. Carrying a gun and explosives, he stormed the hospital's maternity wing to kill an obstetrician who performed a tubal ligation on his wife.

Feb. 8, 1993 - Damascio Ybarra Torres shot three emergency room doctors and took two women hostage at Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center. Torres said he wanted to get even with doctors who treated him ``like an animal.''

May 11, 1994 - Curtis Lamont Brown fatally shot his estranged wife, an operating room technician, as she fled down a hallway at Norton Hospital in Louisville, Ky. Police shot Brown to death after he took a motel desk clerk hostage and aimed his gun at police.

Nov. 7, 1994 - Curt L. Doty walked into the Kootenai Medical Center in Coeur D'Alene, Idaho, and shot his comatose brother to death.

nFeb. 13, 1995 - Jean Dooley, a patient recovering from a hysterectomy, pulled a gun and wounded a nurse and an ambulance employee at Valley Lutheran Hospital in Mesa, Ariz.

April 5, 1995 - Mary Kathryn Ramsay walked into her 90-year-old mother's private room and shot her in the head before killing herself at Boulder Community Hospital in Boulder, Colo.

April 9, 1996 - A man pained by the deteriorating health of his wife shot her to death as she sat in a wheelchair in her room at Lewis-Gale Medical Center in Salem. Frank F. Neutze then killed himself.

Sept. 2, 1996 - A woman was fatally shot and her husband was wounded while in the emergency room of Richmond's Chippenham Medical Center, where they had brought three companions who had been shot in a van. One victim of the earlier shooting also died. The man's ex-wife, Dawn Patricia Cooper, was charged with the shootings.
