SHERIFF'S OFFICE CORRECTS ID OF HOMICIDE VICTIM

Pulaski County authorities said the identity of a shooting victim whose body was found near railroad tracks Friday in the New River community was not what they first believed.

Anthony Keith Rempson, 19, was using the name Keith Lopez while in the area and had a Social Security number to match, according to Sgt. A.R. Webb of the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office.

The Sheriff's Office learned the man's true identity when family members identified Rempson's body. Rempson's permanent address was in Washington, D.C.

Derrick Leon Chapman, 18, of Radford has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with Rempson's death. Authorities arrested Chapman at 6 a.m. Saturday at his home in the Rustic Village Trailer Park. Chapman's preliminary hearing is set for Sept. 30, Webb said.
