Carrie Michelle Crowder, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas E. Crowder of Salem, has been awarded a $1,500 Presidential Scholarship to attend Elon College, N.C.
She is a 1996 graduate of Salem High School.
Caleb M. Taylor, a graduate of William Byrd High School, has received the $2,500 Thomas Rutherfoord Scholarship from the Virginia Road and Transportation Builders Association.
He is a civil and environmental engineering major at the Virginia Military Institute.
Cave Spring High School graduates Janelle Mitchell and Stephen Kunkle have received the 1996 Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship from the state Department of Education.
Mitchell, daughter of Bill and Lorea Mitchell of Roanoke, will attend Vanderbilt University.
Kunkle, son of Arthur and Marion Kunkle of Roanoke, will attend Wake Forest University.
Lory Webster, daughter of Tom and Carol Webster of Roanoke, was recently chosen as one of nine Virginia delegates to "The United Nations Pilgrimage for Youth." Approximately 180 students from 44 states and nine foreign countries attended.
Webster is a rising junior at Cave Spring High School.
