Ex-FBI agent set for Jan. trial
MANASSAS - A judge on Wednesday set a January trial for a former FBI agent accused of menacing a minister who was slated to testify on his wife's behalf in a bitter divorce.
Eugene A. Bennett faces six felony charges stemming from a bizarre plot that went awry June 23. Police say Bennett, armed and wearing a ski mask, ambushed his wife's minister inside a church, shackled the man to a chair and threatened to blow him up with plastic explosives.
A grand jury indicted Bennett, 41, on abduction, burglary, bomb threat, fraud and firearm charges Tuesday.

Killer toad's owner won't face charges
CHARLOTTESVILLE - No charges will be filed against the owner of a giant toad that had a fatal confrontation with a German shepherd dog, Albemarle County officials said.
Western Albemarle County High School biology teacher Jean Foss bought the toad to use in school. She said she didn't know the foot-long, 3-pound amphibian, which escaped early this summer, posed a threat to human beings or animals.
Late in August, another Charlottesville resident saw his German shepherd dog holding the toad in his mouth. The toad was covered with poisonous froth that sickened the dog, and its owner had to put the dog to sleep.
The toad remains at large. Game wardens say the toad's poison would probably not kill a human being.
