A jury recommended Friday that a former Navy SEAL trainee serve 82 years in prison for abducting and murdering a Georgia college student vacationing in Virginia Beach.
The Circuit Court jury said Dustin A. Turner should serve 45 years for first-degree murder in the death of Jennifer Evans and 37 years for the charge of abduction with intent to defile. Each charge had carried a penalty of 20 years to life in prison.
The jury deliberated 8 1/2 hours over two days before returning its verdict Thursday.
A judge will formally sentence Turner on Nov. 6.
