AWARDS PROGRAM HONORS WRITING CONTEST WINNERS

Winners in the 1996 Sherwood Anderson Short Story Contest will be honored Sept. 14 at the Marion Best Western Inn during a dinner and awards program.

The program will start at 4 p.m., with dinner at 6:30 p.m. followed by awards presentations. No reservations are required for the program or awards presentations. Reservations for the dinner are $10 and should be obtained by Wednesday from Don Francis, P.O. Box 1161, Marion, Va. 24353 (telephone 496-7716 at work and 783-8230 at home).

This year's contest winners are:

Adult: 1st place, Becky Mushko, Roanoke; 2nd, Whitney Marie Untiedt, Marion; 3rd, Louise Dawson Stoker, Bramwell, W.Va.; honorable mention, Deborah S. Barbour, Blacksburg; Kathleen Hellen Paesani, Princeton, W.Va., and Curt Alderson, Troutville.

High School: 1st, Molly Anders, Wytheville; 2nd, Julia K. Pugh, Marion; 3rd, Douglas Cheatwood, Roanoke.

Middle school: 1st, R. Anderson Sears, Shawsville; 2nd, Christine Wright, Marion; 3rd, Jonathan Dean, Marion.
