RINER CAR RUNS OFF ROAD INTO CREEK; 2 DIE

Two Riner residents died from injuries sustained shortly before midnight Friday when their car ran off a road and into a creek.

State police identified the victims as Anthony Keith Long, 21, the driver, and Susan Marie Meadows, 15, a passenger. Meadows died at the scene of the accident. Long died early Saturday morning at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

The accident happened about 11:30 on Virginia 658, near Virginia 677. Neither victim was wearing a seat belt, police said. - Staff report
