Four language and cultural classes are being offered by Virginia Tech to those who are interested in learning practical foreign language speaking skills. The classes are intended for students and community members who encounter foreign languages through business or pleasure travel. The classes will be taught at the university this fall. The courses can be taken on a credit or non-credit basis. They include:
* Introduction to French Language and Culture I. Meets in McBryde 204.
* Introduction to Italian Language and Culture I. Meets in McBryde 322.
* Introduction to Japanese Language and Culture I. Meets in McBryde 329.
* Introduction to Chinese Language and Culture I. Meets in McBryde 318.
The classes are being offered by the university's Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures in conjunction with the university's Division of Continuing Education and its Office of the Vice Provost for International Programs. The classes are semi-instructional and provide introductory conversational language and will introduce the students to the culture of the regions of the world where the language being studied is the native tongue.
Registration is in progress and are scheduled to begin Sept. 10. Classes will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays, 7-8:30 p.m. and will run through the week of Nov. 22. Students who do not register before the start date should attend class the first day and register there. Tuition is $300.
