APPLAUSE HELPING OUR COMMUNITY

* The playground committee at Blacksburg's Harding Avenue Elementary School wants to thank the people and businesses who donated more than $1,100 to be used to replace aging playground equipment.

Donating were the National Bank of Blacksburg; Volvo GM Heavy Truck Corp.; Heavener Hardware and Lumber; Ipanema Restaurant; SEAS Inc.; Lube Time; dentist Joe A. Paget Jr.; veterinarian J. Phillip Pickett; lawyer Marshall J. Frank; New River Valley Podiatry and Foot Surgery; Bogen's restaurant; Elite Style Salon; Rainbow Riders Childcare; Dr. C.L. Boatwright; Dr. Tina L. Smusz; optometrist Frederick Uhler; optometrist Steve Jacobs; Newland Computers; Dr. Patty Anne Shinnick; Souvlaki restaurant; Grand Piano and Furniture; Travelmasters; insurance agent Charles W. Turman; and American Martial Arts Center.

* The Radford Humane Society's recent yard and bake sale was a big success, thanks to the efforts of contributors and participants.

The money raised will be used to pay boarding fees and shots, and to spay or neuter animals.

Contributing were: Kmart, Wal-Mart, Kroger, Heilig-Meyers, Schewel Furniture, Looking Good Beauty Shop, New River Valley Kennel Club and Sue Boggess, Kay Lookado, Janice Dickerson, Beth Ranthum, Tina Benek, Becky Hicks, Lorri Jones, Roger Wills, Norm Kalchik, Jim Weyer and Sgt. Epperly at the Radford Armory.
