Virginia Tech finished ninth in the 18-team Kiawah Island (S.C.) Intercollegiate golf tournament.
Virginia Commonwealth won the team title with a 16-under-par 848 on the Osprey Point Golf Club course. Duke was second, five strokes back, and Tech finished at 12-over 876.
Donnie Lee of VCU won medalist honors with an 11-under 205 total. Curtis Deal and Brad Hyler led Tech with 72s on Tuesday and matching 216 totals.

* Jamie Miller headed in a corner kick in the 18th minute as Eastern Mennonite edged Ferrum 1-0 in a men's soccer game on the Panthers' field.
Tom Rice assisted on the goal for the Royals (2-0), and Jair Drooger made seven saves to pick up the shutout. Glen Hofstrom made 11 saves for Ferrum (0-1).
* The Roanoke College women's soccer team is ranked eighth in the first National Soccer Coaches Association of America regional poll. The Maroons (2-1) are ranked in the South Region along with Randolph-Macon (fourth) and Virginia Wesleyan (10th).
* Virginia punter Will Brice received the AT&T Long Distance award for averaging 54.5 yards per kick against Central Michigan. AT&T donated $400 to the NCAA's Degree-Completion Scholarship Program in Brice's name.
