Roanoke financial adviser honored
A Roanoke financial planner has been included on a list of 200 "best financial advisers" nationwide in the October issue of Worth magazine.
Andrew M. Hudick of Fee-Only Financial Planning is one of six Virginians on the list. The other five are in Northern Virginia.
"We strove to make certain that each person met our criteria for honesty and excellence," wrote the magazine's editor, William P. Barrett. "Our bottom -line question: Would we recommend this adviser to our parents?"
Barrett pointed out that about 250,000 people nationwide refer to themselves as financial advisers or planners, but the industry is largely unregulated. "Just about anyone can hang out a shingle," the editor said.
The magazine started with 615 advisers recommended by professional organizations such as the Institute of Certified Financial Planners and the International Association of Financial Planners.
Nominees were asked for professional-disclosure documents, samples of their work and to answer a six-page questionnaire about income, personal and client references, job history, credentials and any record of disciplinary problems. Nominees were asked their highest and lowest fees and the number of plans drafted in recent years.
The magazine also checked each nominee with credit bureaus, local courthouses, Better Business Bureaus, local newspaper databases, state securities regulators and credential-granting agencies.
