A former Roanoker was killed during a shooting spree in Valdosta, Ga., on Aug.30.
William Walker Moses, 45, of Valdosta, was shot five times outside The Office Grille, a bar he owned, The Valdosta Daily Times reported.
Moses was born in Roanoke. He graduated from Patrick Henry High School in 1968. He moved to Georgia in 1984, his aunt, Nancy Combs, said.
Loren Allen Denzer, 38, surrendered outside the bar shortly after the shooting, wearing two empty gun holsters.
Moses was shot several times in the chest and collapsed on the sidewalk in front of the bar. The gunman turned Moses over and asked, "What do you think about this?" before shooting him twice more, the newspaper said.
The gunman then went into the bar and fired more shots, hitting four other people, who were hospitalized. When police arrived the gunman fired four shots at the officers as they stood in the parking lot of the busy shopping center, the Daily Times reported.
Denzer has been charged with one count of murder and four counts of aggravated assault. He may also face several other charges.
Moses was "just a real nice young man and wonderful father to his boy, who was the apple of his eye," Combs said. "You read about things like this happening in California, not in your own family."
