FUNERAL HOME SET FOR CONSTRUCTION

Simpson-Tharp Funeral Home, a company with operations in Bedford and Lynchburg, said Friday it started construction for a funeral home and cremation center at 5160 Peters Creek Road. It is its first operation in the Roanoke Valley.

The funeral home's investment in land and buildings will be $1.5 million, said Timothy Gubala, director of economic development for Roanoke County.

Simpson-Tharp is the first project to locate at the 12-acre Peters Creek Commercial Park, which is under development by Branch Investments. The park contains sites for commercial and retail uses. Billy Branch and Tom Branch are principals in the company.

The funeral home and Branch Investments are the beneficiaries of $41,226 in a public and private partnership fund provided by Roanoke County. The fund assisted in the extension of water and sewer to Peters Creek Commercial Park and in payment of utility connection fees for the funeral home.
