SERVICES

* Holy Spirit Catholic Church will have Mass at 6 p.m. tonight at Our Saviour Lutheran Church at 1845 Cambria St., Christiansburg. The celebrant will be Monsignor Chester Michael, author of "Arise: A Christian Psychology of Love." 381-0299.

* St. Mary's Catholic Church on Harding Avenue in Blacksburg, will celebrate Mass at 5 p.m. today, and at 8:45 and 11:15 a.m. on Sunday. Readings include Psalm 103: 1-4, 9-12; Romans 14: 7-9; and Matthew 18: 21-35. 552-1091.

* Bill Sydor will speak on "Expectation" (part three of 12 spiritual laws), at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Blacksburg Community for Spiritual Living,105 Lee St. 951-4848.

* The Believers from Greeneville, Tenn., will be in concert at Belspring United Methodist Church off Belspring Road, at 9:45 a.m. Sunday. 639-5185.

* Area United Methodist churches are sponsoring a youth rally and concert at 5:30 p.m. Sunday. All youths are invited to hear Rico, a Christian rapper with the "Tak'in It to the Street" tour. The location on Highland Road will be marked with red balloons. In case of inclement weather, the event will be held at Belspring United Methodist Church. 639-5185.

* Join residents and employees of Serenity House in celebration of its 22nd anniversary from 12 to 5 p.m. Sept. 21 at the center in Pilot. A midday catered meal and bluegrass and gospel music will be featured. Admission is by donation. * "What's the Recipe: A Cup of That and a Dash of This?" will be Russell Gregory's topic at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the New River Valley, 1301 Gladewood Drive in Blacksburg. At 7:30 p.m. Thursday Dr. William Hendricks will present "Preserving the Doctor-Patient Relationship in the Era of Managed Health Care" at the Fellowship's Gladewood Forum. 951-1720.

* The second annual Potato Harvest Festival sponsored by Our Saviour Lutheran Church and Holy Spirit Catholic Church begins at 8 a.m. today at 1845 Cambria St. in Christiansburg. Activities include a 50-family yard sale, charity auction, live music, bake sale and food concessions. Proceeds from the festival, canned goods collected, and potatoes harvested from the church's garden support area hunger ministries and provide direct emergency hunger assistance. Activities continue until 3 p.m.

* An interdenominational women's Bible study meets from 9 to 10 a.m. each Wednesday in the activity building at St. Paul's United Methodist Church at 220 West Main St. in Christiansburg. Annell Winbery, 382-3226.

* Christian Community Outreach offers a food bank and gospel ministry Sept. 26. Doors open at the OCAW Union Hall in Fairlawn at 7 p.m., first come, first served. 639-5686.

* The first series of weekly 6 p.m. Wednesday night Bible studies, "Christian Attitudes and Actions," has begun at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Christiansburg, and will continue through Oct. 16. The second series, "The Development of Personality Characteristics," will then continue for four to six weeks. Parents of children ages 3 and 4 will meet tomorrow at 3 p.m. in the fellowship hall to make plans for a cherub choir. 382-2410.

* The Rev. Donald Makin will deliver the sermon, "This Sermon Any Good?" based on John 3:1-10, at the 11 a.m. worship service tomorrow at Christiansburg Presbyterian Church. Sunday School classes are at 9:30 a.m. Middle-school youths will meet from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the church, and at 7:30 p.m. the senior-high youth fellowship will hold its organizational meeting. 382-2802.

* Pastor Gina Rhea of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ),400 Tyler Ave., Radford, reminds members to register to have their portraits taken for the church directory on either Oct. 18 between 3 to 9:30 p.m. or Oct.19 between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the church. 639-3696.

* Riner Grace Brethren Churchwill have a revival beginning Sept. 22 at the 11 a.m. service, led by Pastor Fred Devan from Roanoke, who will speak at the 7 p.m. services through Sept. 26. There will not be an evening service on Sunday. A meal will be served Sunday at 12:30 p.m., and singing will follow at 2 p.m., with the Farley Brothers and New Grace. 382-7571.

* Pilot United Methodist Church on Pilot Road, will begin its revival at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow with the Rev. Donald Stansell of Floyd United Methodist Church as the evangelist. The services, featuring special music, will continue on Monday and Tuesday nights at 7:30 p.m. 639-3594.

* Merrimac Pentecostal Holiness Church, 895 Merrimac Road, will be having special revival services tomorrow through Sept. 18. The Sunday services will be at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. The evening services, Monday through Wednesday, will begin at 7:30 p.m. The Rev. Scott Smith, from Birmingham, Ala., will be the guest speaker.

ACTIVITIES AND EVENTS

* The adult class at Morgans Chapel United Methodist Church in New River will have its annual hot dog and hamburger dinner and cake walk today. The serving starts at 6 p.m. and the cakewalk begins at 7 p.m. Takeout orders will be available. The dinner includes salads, baked beans and a variety of homemade desserts.
