CRAFTERS STILL NEEDED FOR PULASKI FESTIVAL

Organizers of the Count Pulaski Festival set for Oct. 5 are seeking more arts and crafts vendors but already have a day of entertainment all lined up.

Activities will get under way in downtown Pulaski with opening ceremonies at 9:30 a.m., including a tribute by Janie Hardwick to Count Pulaski, the Polish noble who fought on the side of the colonists in the Revolutionary War, and an appearance by Winsdon Pound as Count Pulaski himself.

The Confederate Cloggers, New River Community College Twirlers and Old Pros will perform from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

A highlight of the day will be a celebration of the Old Courthouse's birthday, complete with cakes being baked by various civic and other groups. The various cakes will be on view from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and local government officials will speak in front of the courthouse from 11:30 a.m. until noon prior to massive cake cuttings and cake for everyone.

Afternoon entertainment will include the Virginia Tech Folk Dancers, Old Pros, Held Over, and Don and the Deltones.

Tours of the historic courthouse and its exhibits will be offered from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., as well as tours of the town's historic Train Station building.

Activities for youngsters during the day will include storytelling by Cat White and Freda Hubble, a show by The Clown Company, Mark Fuller's magic show, face-painting, chalk graffiti, rock painting and appearances by McGruff, the crime-fighting dog and car-crash dummies Vince and Larry.

Arts or crafts vendors interested in participating can call 980-5342 for information.
