Christiansburg festival set for Saturday

CHRISTIANSBURG - The town's annual Wilderness Trail Festival will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in downtown Christiansburg.

The festival will feature vendors from throughout the East Coast, as well as food, music, a children's area, and other attractions.

The event, regularly attracting thousands of people, is one of the town's and the Christiansburg-Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce's biggest yearly events.

The festival commemorates the town's origin as a stop on the Wilderness Trail, a route 18th-century settlers used to go to Kentucky.

Wilderness Inn in Newbern to close

NEWBERN - The Wilderness Inn has closed, its owners citing time constraints.

"I originally hoped that the restaurant could provide an outlet for my love of cooking, decorating and entertaining and still allow time for my family, but this just hasn't been the case," said Karen Hines, co-owner, along with Bill Ryplansky, of the restaurant for the last 31/2 years.

Hines said she and Ryplansky are trying to find a buyer and have already fielded inquiries from interested people.

"It seems like there's a real potential there," Hines said, mentioning nearby Dublin and historical Newbern as attracting customers.

Customers holding gift certificates may redeem them by sending a self-addressed stamped envelope to The Wilderness Inn, P.O. Box 580, Newbern Va., 24126.
