CELEBRATIONS - ANNIVERSARIES

Chappell anniversary

Victoria and William Chappell Jr. celebrated their 50th anniversary on September 14, 1996. It was hosted by Thelma and L. C. Miller, Jr. of Salem, Va. The couple was married Sept. 14, 1946 at East Millinocket, ME. They have resided in Blacksburg 45 years. She is the former Victoria Mackenzie of East Millinocket, ME. Their children are Nancy Oviatt and her husband, Stephen, of Manassas, Va. and William Chappell III and his wife, Frances, of Blacksburg. Their grandchildren are Lauren and Eileen Oviatt, and Jamie and Ross Chappell. He is retired from Virginia Tech where he had been employed since 1951. She is retired from the Virginia Dept. of Education. Out-of-town guests attending the celebration included Doris and Victor Craighead of Patrick Springs, Va., Alice Moody of Blacksburg and Dr. T. Jackson Smith of Blacksburg.

Clark anniversary

Maynard and Erma Clark celebrated their 50th anniversary on September 10, 1996 at home.

The couple was married at Eagle Rock Methodist Church by the Rev. Paul D. Martin on September 10, 1946.

They have four sons and eight grandchildren.

She is the former Erma Johnson. He served during World War II and retired from CSX.

Farrow anniversary

James (Tweety) and Virginia (Jenny) Farrow celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday, August 24, 1996. The celebration was held at their county home in Salem, Va. and was hosted by her family. The Farrows were married on August 24, 1946 in Radford, Va.

Gibson anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Melvin Gibson celebrated their 50th anniversary on September 7, 1996. The celebration was held at Taylor Hall at Enon Baptist Church. It was hosted by Mr.. Mark Gibson and Mrs. Teresa White. The couple was married September 6, 1946, in Cloverdale, Va. They have lived in Roanoke for 40 years. Mrs. Gibson is the former Mildred Lee Crowe. The couple's children are Mark Gibson, Knightdale, N. C., and Teresa White, St. Paul, Minn. They have two grandchildren. Mr. Gibson is retired from Overnite Transportation. They are heavily involved in the church. Lots of family and friends attended the celebration.

Kessler anniversary

Maurice and Wenona (Nonie) Kessler, of Daleville, celebrated their 50th anniversary on September 7, 1996. They were married on September 7, 1946 in the Raleigh Court Presbyterian Church. Nonie is the former Wenona Lea Wheeler. The celebration was held at the Vinton home of their son and was hosted by Mike and Teri Kessler. They have two grandsons, Martin and Matt Kessler.

Perdue anniversary

Frank and Louise Perdue, of Boones Mill, were honored on their 50th wedding anniversary, September 7, 1996, at Over Home Bed & Breakfast, Hardy Va. Frank is retired from Norfolk & Western Railway. Louise is retired from Kenrose Mfg. and Community Hospital.

They are wished a very special day by their children, Dr. Marvin and Anne Perdue; grandchildren, Sean and Patricia, Jason and Lisa, and Erin; and great-granddaughter, Brittney.

Philpott anniversary

Letcher A. and Geraldine L. Philpott celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on September 14, 1996, with a dinner at Charcoal Steak House hosted by their children. Their son, Robert Wayne Philpott and daughter-in-law, Joy Philpott of West Redding, CT. Diane L. Philpott of Charlotte, North Carolina, Elaine P. Kellam and son-in-law, Jack Kellam of Bassett, Virginia. Grandchildren are Robert W. Philpott, Jr., Geri R. Philpott, Joshua L. Senter, Chelsea E. Senter and Zachariah S. Kellam.

Letcher and Geraldine were married on September 17, 1946, in Roanoke, Virginia. She is the former Geraldine Olive Lemon. Mr. Philpott is retired from Appalachian Power Company. Mrs. Philpott is retired from Dr. Stockstill's office.

Runyon anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Weston G. Runyon, Sr. (Bud and Bea) celebrated their 50 years of marriage with family and friends at the Charcoal Steak House September 7, 1996.

The couple was married September 6, 1946, by the late Rev. O. L. Craft of the Edgewood Christian Church.

They have one son and daughter-in-law, Weston and Deedy, and two grandchildren, Chad and Kelli.

Mr. Runyon retired from Stone and Hickory Printing Co. after 42 years.

Mrs. Runyon, former Beatrice Price, retired from Leggett's.

Williams anniversary

Fred and Phyllis Williams celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary on Saturday, September 14, 1996.

She is the former Phyllis Anne Taylor of Roanoke. He is Fred Wade Williams formerly of Covington, Va.

A reception was given by their children at the home of their daughter and son-in-law, Donnie and Lisa Sutliff.

The couple has four children and their spouses, Tom and Risa Hayes of Georgia; Lora and Paul Williams of Roanoke; Lisa and Donnie Sutliff of Botetourt; and David and Alison Williams of Stephens City, Va. They also have seven grandchildren and a grandson due in November.

Fred and Phyllis have spent the last 12 years traveling with his company.

Their children want to thank them for their love, support and showing them what the true meaning of family is.
