CELEBRATIONS - WEDDINGS II

Slaubaugh-Smith

R. Kimberly Smith and Steven S. Slaubaugh were married at 4:00 on Saturday, September 14, 1996 at First Baptist Church in Roanoke. The Reverend Charles H. Ward officiated the wedding worship service. The bride is the daughter of Ellen S. Scyphers and Ralph K. Smith of Roanoke. The groom is the son of Vickie and Terry Slaubaugh of Bridgewater, Virginia.

Escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents, the bride wore a white dupioni silk gown featuring an off the shoulder scalloped portrait neckline, fitted basque bodice lightly accented with alencon lace, pearls and sequins, and a full skirt which fell into a cathedral train with the bride and groom's initials hand embroidered into the intricately detailed train. Kimberly wore a headband of Austrian crystals with a cathedral length veil and custom pearl earrings designed by the groom, his wedding gift to her. She carried a bouquet of Cymbidium Orchids, Roses and Stephanotis.

Ms. Kimberly Ann Clements of Roanoke served as maid of honor, and Mrs. Patricia O'Such Sheehan assisted as matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Ms. Karen Aylette Chappell of Blacksburg. Mrs. Tracey Benner Hilliard of Charlottesville, and Ms. Michelle Renee Boardman of Bridgewater. The attendants wore floor-length hunter green dresses with a matching, trailing chiffon scarf and carried bouquets of Sensation Roses, red Sweethearts, golden Kangaroo Paws, fuschia Freesia and Ivy in silver Victorian Posey-holders. Miss Madeline Jane Arthur, goddaughter of the groom, and her younger sister, Miss Katherine Elizabeth Arthur, along with Miss Katelyn Elizabeth Sheehan, goddaughter of the bride, attended as flowergirls.

Mr. Todd Gordon Slaubaugh served as his brother's best man, and the groomsmen included Mr. William Keith Sheets of McGaheysville, Mr. Kenneth Clark Arthur of Sterling, Mr. Taylor Ralph Smith of Roanoke, and Mr. Stanley Douglas Smith of Arlington. Master Jared William Sheets lit the candles, and Master Jacob Carl Sheets was ringbearer; the young brothers are from McGaheysville. Mr. Curtis Bryant Clements of Roanoke read Scripture during the ceremony.

Ms. Helen Turner sang a solo,``Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee'' during the service and the First Baptist Church King's Men sang the hymn ``The Solid Rock''. Mr. Don Arnold closed the ceremony with a solo of ``The Lord's Prayer''. Organ music was provided by Mrs. Kaye Young. Ms. Tina Marie Mazey of Alexandria and Ms. Linda Susan Weaver of Roanoke attended the guestbooks.

A reception at Rockledge, home of the bride's father, followed the wedding and featured entertainment by Reflections. The groom's parents hosted a rehearsal dinner on Friday night at The Shenandoah Club.

The bride is a graduate of Northside High School and James Madison University and is the former District Sales Manager of Browning Ferris Industries in Roanoke. The groom is a graduate of Spotswood Senior High School in McGaheysville and Bridgewater College. He is a Sales Representative for Packaging Services, Inc. of Weyer's Cave, Virginia. After a honeymoon spent touring the Pacific Coast, the couple will make their home in Roanoke County.

Teague-Monroe

Christina Lynn Monroe and Nelson Stone Teague, Jr. were married on September 14, 1996, in Prince George Winyah Episcopal Church, Georgetown, South Carolina with the Reverend Hill Carter Riddle of New Orleans, Louisiana and the Reverend Herman Hollerith IV officiating. The reception was held at Litchfield Plantation, Pawleys Island, South Carolina.

The bride is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. William Murchison Monroe of Greenville, North Carolina. She is a graduate of the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. She is employed by The Academy for Economic Education and Grateful Pet, Inc.

The bridegroom is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Nelson Stone Teague of Roanoke, Virginia. He is a graduate of Washington and Lee University and the University of Richmond School of Law. He is employed by First North American National Bank, a subsidiary of Circuit City, Inc.

Melissa Monroe Anderson of Greenville, North Carolina, sister of the bride, was matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Kathleen Teague Bogusky of Towson, Maryland; Cynthia Monroe Yow of Wilmington, North Carolina; Karen Cordaro Monroe of Raleigh, North Carolina; Jennifer Crane Newman of Atlanta, Georgia; Caroline Powell Norwood of NewBern, North Carolina; Kimberly Carroway Robertson of Wheaton, Illinois; Camilla Henderson Taft of Honolulu, Hawaii; Catherine Jane Tingelstad of Richmond, Virginia; Eleanor Hargrove Williamson of Portland, Oregon.

Nelson Stone Teague, father of the groom, was best man. Groomsmen were Carter McKenzie Teague, brother of the groom; William Murchison Monroe of Raleigh, North Carolina, brother of the bride; Jeffery Michael Ahearn, Wayles Harrison Dandridge, King Fitchett Tower, John Robert Cunningham, all of Richmond, Virginia; Walter Moore Dixon III, Lynn Scott Avis, John Everette Gardner III, all of Roanoke Virginia; Christopher Morgan Weed of West Hartfort, Connecticut.

Flower girls were Katherine Stewart Yow of Wilmington, North Carolina, and Elizabeth Trout Parrott of Roanoke, Virginia.

After a wedding trip to Nevis, St. Kitts, the couple will live in Richmond, Virginia.

Thomas-Bosshart

Jennifer Mary Bosshart and Larry Wayne Thomas were married September 7, 1996 in St. John's Episcopal Church by Reverend Thomas O'dell. The reception was held at the Patrick Henry Hotel. Maid of honor was Lisa Martin, friend. Bridesmaids were Deirdre Burgoyne, friend and Carolyn Mountcastle, sister-in-law. Best man was Christopher Akers, friend. Ushers were Thomas Mountcastle, brother-in-law, and Kenneth Fritz, stepfather. The guest book was attended by Laura Koester. The bride wore an off the shoulder princess style gown made of silk with a beaded top section and a large sized bow in the rear of the dress with beaded rosettes, and medium length train. She carried a cascade of roses.

The bride is a daughter of Edward & Jane Bosshart of Roanoke. She is a graduate of North Cross School and is employed by First Virginia Bank. The bridegroom, son of Jerry Thomas of Roanoke and Mary Fritz of Richmond, is a graduate of Northside High School, Roanoke. He is employed by Advance Distributor and Paint by Gary. The newlyweds will live in Roanoke after the wedding trip to Disney World and Vero Beach, Fla.

Thornton-Dunn

Shannon Marie Dunn and James Allen Thornton, Jr., were married September 14, 1996, in Pine Valley United Methodist Church, Wilmington, North Carolina, with Rev. Eckie Lancaster officiating. The reception was held at Coastline Convention Center in Wilmington. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. (R.A.) Tony Dunn, Wilmington, North Carolina. She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is employed by Carilion Roanoke Community Hospital. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James A. Thornton, Sr., Roanoke, Va. He graduated from Virginia Intermont, Bristol, and is self-employed with Canary Tile. The newlyweds will live in Roanoke, Va., after a wedding trip to Jamaica.

Witt-Sarver

Melissa D. Sarver and Glen F. Witt were married April 20th, 1996 in Mineral Springs Baptist Church. Asst. Pastor Bobby Harris was the officiating clergyman. The reception was held in the church Social Hall.

Andrea Wolfe of Salem, Va., served as her sister's matron of honor. The bridesmaids were Dawn Burton of Goodview, Va. and Virginia Aharon of Chaney Hill, N.J., friends of the bride. Ashley Witt, niece of the groom, was the flowergirl. Ollie F. Witt served as his son's best man. The ushers were Frank Witt, brother of the groom; and George Talton, cousin of the groom. Frank Witt was the candlelighter and Robin Waldron-Witt was the guestbook attendant.

The bride wore a white satin gown trimmed in Irish lace, sequins and pearls with a cathedral train and veil of illusion with pearls and sequins. She carried a tear drop bouquet of white carnations and mauve roses.

The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert J. Sarver, Sr. of Moneta, Va. She is a graduate of Staunton River High School in Moneta, Va. and is employed by Piedmont Label Co., Inc. of Bedford.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ollie F. Witt of Bedford, Va. He is a graduate of Staunton River High School in Moneta, Va. and is self-employed.

After an extended honeymoon, the couple reside in Bedford, Va.
