The Governor's Commission on Environmental Stewardship will hold a public meeting Thursday at the Salem Civic Center to:
* Suggest improvements to Virginia's environmental policies and laws, and evaluate laws regarding waste management and recycling.
* Find ways to get Virginia residents more involved in wise stewardship of the state's natural resources.
* Evaluate state laws and policies regarding parks, recreation, natural areas and wildlife management.
* Foster growth of industries in the state working on environmental technologies.
* Examine the role of citizen boards in policies and actions affecting natural resources and environmental quality.
At the meeting in Salem, the commission will look primarily at issues of interest to three of its six working groups: pollution prevention, environmental technology, and regulatory process improvements.
The commission will meet from 11 a.m. to noon in a public session. It will then break for lunch and a visit to Ronile Inc., a maker of nylon carpet yarn in Rocky Mount. The commission will meet again in public session at the civic center at 4 p.m. and, after a dinner break, at 7 p.m.
Following any scheduled presentations at the 7 p.m. session, the commission will take public comment. Public comment will be welcome on any topic falling within the commission's responsibility.
