LIBERTY HIGH TEEN FACES DRUG CHARGE

A 17-year-old Liberty High School student was arrested by the Bedford County Sheriff's Office on drug charges while he was at school Monday.

The boy, whose name is being withheld because he is a juvenile, was charged with one count of distribution of marijuana and one count of possession of marijuana with the intent to sell.

According to Lt. John McCane, the youth allegedly sold marijuana to an undercover police officer over the weekend. When sheriff's deputies came to Liberty to serve a warrant on him, drug dogs alerted them to the scent of drugs in the boy's car. Inside the car, McCane said, deputies found about 5 ounces of marijuana and a set of scales.

Another 17-year-old boy, a friend of the first boy's, also was arrested Monday and charged with carrying a concealed weapon after school officials discovered a long butterfly knife in his coat, McCane said.
