FORESTER, SHAWSVILLE BLAST BLAND

Megan Forester lit up Bland for a career-high 39 points and Shawsville cruised to an 83-20 win over the Rockets in a non-district girls' basktball game in Shawsville.

Forester scored 27 points in the first half, as the Shawnees (5-2) rolled to a 39-8 lead. The 5-foot-9 sophomore made 18 of 21 shots from the floor (86 percent), grabbed 14 rebounds and handed out five assists.

It was a night for padding statistics for other Shawnees, as well. Sarah Hagood had 18 points and 12 rebounds, Beth Burdette had eight steals, seven assists and nine points.

In other games:

Grayson County 50, Radford 48: Teaka Wright sank a free throw with eight seconds remaining and Radford's off-balance final shot ricocheted off the rim as the Blue Devils held off the Bobcats in a non-district game in Independence.

Carico scored four of the Blue Devils' 10 points in the final period, while Whittington scored 12 of her 14 in the opening period when Grayson County (1-5) staked an 18-17 lead.

Radford trailed 28-21 heading into the locker room, scored the first seven points of the second half to pull even at 28-28, but couldn't take the lead.

Charlee Taylor scored a game-high 27 points, including all four in the second quarter, for the Bobcats (5-4).

Tazewell 69, Rural Retreat 57: Suzanne Groseclose scored 19 points and Myra Rasnick added 10 as the Bulldogs won a non-district game at Rural Retreat.

Tazewell rallied from a first-half, five-point deficit to take a 28-27 lead at halftime. The Bulldogs were 11-for-18 from free-throw line in the fourth period.

Amy Grubb scored 12 for Rural Retreat (4-2), Jane Grubb had 11 and Mary Brewer 10.

Patrick County 53, Bassett 47, OT: The Cougars made key free throws in overtime and took advantage of some Bengal misses to claim a non-district win in Bassett.

Patrick County (5-1) was 7-for-8 from the free-throw line in the overtime period and 8-for-12 for the game. Holly Weber led the Cougars with 17 points.

Bassett (5-1) missed the second of two free-throw attempts that would have won the game with 10 seconds left in regulation. Sophomore Heather Miller scored 27 points and added 16 rebounds for Bassett.

Narrows 53, Auburn 46: The Green Wave built a big lead and managed to hang on for the seven point win over the Eagles in a non-district game in Narrows.

Narrows (5-2) led 39-14 at the half and led by 24 points after three. The Green Wave played substitutions in the fourth until Auburn (3-6) cut the lead to 11 with 3:30 minutes left to go. Narrows was led by Suzanne Webb's 22 points and five rebounds. Susan Wirt tallied 10 points for Auburn.

Gretna 56, Liberty 42: The Hawks broke open a close game in the third quarter to seal the 14 point win over the Minnettes in Bedford.

Gretna (2-4) was led by Crystal Boyd's 16 points. Tara Barbour and Amy Cook had 12 points each.

Selena Byers scored 13 points and grabbed nine rebounds for Liberty (1-7).

Fieldale-Collinsville 53, Staunton River 43: The Cavaliers avenged an earlier loss to the Golden Eagles as Jennifer Witt scored 12 of her 17 points in the second half in a non-district triumph in Collinsville.

Jennifer Floyd and Carrie Quinlan added 13 points apiece for Fieldale-Collinsville (4-4), which posted its fourth straight win.

Erin Wolfe scored 17 points and Stephanie Alexander added 11 for Staunton River.

Parry McCluer 41, Rockbridge County 28: Lindsey Coleman scored 15 points and Nikki Barger 14 as the Fighting Blues pulled away from the Wildcats.

Bath County 41, Alleghany 27: Junior Katie Hardbarger scored 17 points and pulled down 16 rebounds as the Chargers beat the Mountaineers in Hot Springs in a non-district matchup.

Floyd County 74, Galax 42: Sara Conner scored eight of her 17 points in the first quarter as the Buffaloes sprinted out to a 29-6 lead after the first quarter and cruised to a non-district victory.

Martinsville 66, Dan River 19: Latonya Martin, Erica Brandon and Tiffany Watkins scored 10 points apiece as the host Bulldogs downed the Wildcats.
