MAPCO SELLS TO INVESTMENT FIRM

MAPCO Coal Inc. said the company has sold all its common stock and that of its affiliate MC Mining Inc. to the Beacon Group Energy Investment Fund L.P., a private investment firm based in New York.

MAPCO and MC Mining employ roughly 1,400 workers at seven diversified mining complexes in Virginia and three other states. Terms of the sale were not disclosed.
