GERMAN FIRM TO BRING PLANT, JOBS TO PULASKI COUNTY

Silver Creek Technologies Inc., a German-based manufacturer of precision housing and wood products, has announced it will buy 25 acres in a Pulaski County industrial park at New River Valley Airport with an option to buy a second 25 acres.

It plans to build a 120,000-square-foot manufacturing facility for pre-engineered building systems and the remanufacture of tropical hardwood products such as flooring, moldings, windows, siding and other housing and building components.

Silver Creek expects to be in business at the site by next spring, and ultimately to employ 350 people.

Its main market will be Germany, where the 1989 unification of East and West Germany has spurred a demand for housing and building components and materials. It will buy the industrial park land from the Pulaski County Industrial Development Authority.

Silver Creek was organized in Saarbruecken, Germany. Its managing director is Hans Herrmann who recently came from Saarbruecken to Virginia where it recently incorporated.

It uses high-technology German robotics and manufacturing techniques to turn out precision products in a relatively short time.

Herrmann said he was pleased with the responsiveness and cooperation of Pulaski County representatives in meeting Silver Creek's requirements.

Among the reasons to locate the plant in this industrial park, he said, are immediate access to an airport with an instrument landing system; a good work force; and the wage, power and natural gas rates.
