Erin Patrick scored six of her 13 points in a 12-2 run to open the third quarter that carried visiting Salem to a 60-55 victory over Blacksburg on Tuesday night in the Blue Ridge District opener for both teams.
Sarah Palmer led the Spartans (6-1) with 21 points.
The Indians (3-5) got double-figure scoring from Karly Geller (14 points), Casey Beamer (12), Andrea Feret (10) and Annie Carter (10).
Northside 57, Christiansburg 36: Juniors Samantha Webb and Crystal Barrett led the way for the Vikings as they downed the visiting Blue Demons in their opening Blue Ridge District game.
Webb scored a game-high 16 points and added six rebounds, four assists and four steals. Barrett contributed 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Vikings (6-1).
Northside was able to pull away in the fourth quarter by going 12-for-16 from the free-throw line after going 1-for-7 in the first three quarters.
Amber Reed led Christiansburg (4-2) with 14 points. She hit four 3-pointers in the second half to help keep the Demons within striking distance.
Glenvar 59, James River 25: Erika Hale scored a game-high 19 points to help the Highlanders cruise to a non-district victory over the Knights in Buchanan.
Glenvar outrebounded James River 37-25 and was able to shut down the Knights' offense. Amanda Rydell added 14 points for the Highlanders (4-3).
Julie Firebaugh led James River (2-5) with eight points.
Shawsville 78, Craig County 27: The Shawnees' three-pronged attack paced them to a non-district victory in New Castle.
Megan Forster led Shawsville with 25 points (10 in the third quarter) and Beth Burdette and Sarah Hagood had 20 and 14, respectively. Sara Trump added 10.
Lindsay Huffman played a tough game for the Rockets, scoring 12 points.
