FOOD VENDOR COURSE OFFERED

The New River Valley Health District and Virginia Cooperative Extension will be offering a course designed for persons who serve and sell food to the public at events and festivals. The Occasional Quantity Cook course covers the following topics over six hours: planning, purchasing and storing food supplies; preparing food; transporting, storing and serving cooked food and handling leftovers.

Vendors who complete the course will receive certification as a temporary food vendor. This certification will be accepted in the New River Health District and will allow vendors to operate without pre-opening inspections.

The course will be taught at Pearisburg Community Center Oct. 1, 3 and 8 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Course instructors are Tommy James and Sheila Pfister, environmental health specialists; and Sarah Burkett, a Virginia Cooperative Extension family and consumer sciences agent. The fee is $10 and includes notebook, exam and certificate.
