ARCHER, Edward Blair, 84, of Wytheville, died Wednesday, September 18, 1996. Graveside service will be Saturday, 11 a.m., in the St. John's Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 9 a.m. until service time at the Grubb Funeral Home.

BOUSMAN, Brianna Gale, and BOUSMAN, Bethany Jean, infant twin daughters of Bill and Tracy Bousman of Penhook, died Tuesday, September 17, 1996, in a Roanoke hospital. Other survivors include one brother, Shane Bousman; their grandparents, Wayne and Gale Haskins of Danville, and BIlly and Shelba Bousman of Rocky Mount; their great-grandmother, Catherine Martin of Penhook; their great-great-grandmother, Cora Robertson of Penhook, and three aunts, Lisa Ferguson, Cheryl White and Annette Law. BUTLER, Trula Bain, 92, of Salem, passed away on Tuesday, September 17, 1996 at Richfield Nursing Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter M. Butler, Sr.;two sons, George C. Butler and James W. Butler; grandsons, Timothy W. Smith and Dale E. Butler. Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Walter M., Jr. and June Butler, John H. and Grace Butler, Francis H. and Judy Butler; daughters and son-in-law, Mary B. and Albion Smith, Sarah B. and Jim Tuckwiller; daughter-in-law, Edith H. Butler; brother, George C. (``Jack'') Bain; 16 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 2 great great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. She was a lifelong resident of Salem, a member of Bethel Baptist Church, and the VFW #484. Funeral services will be held at the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel in Salem on Friday, September 20, 1996 at 11 a.m., with the Rev. R. Stuart Carlton officiating. Burial will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9.

COLEMAN, Rachael Jean Hurst, (``Jean''), 74, of Annaburg Manor, Manassas, formerly of Roanoke, loving mother to three daughters, Charlotte C. Strano of Richmond, Beverley J. Coleman of Roanoke, and Frances C. LoBello of Centreville; two sons, Rodney I. Coleman of Smith Mountain Lake and Marshall G. Coleman of Roanoke, and two sons-in-law, Peter E. LoBello and Frank A. Strano, passed away on Monday, September 16, 1996. Mrs. Coleman is survived by six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Allen and Ola Hurst of Raleigh, N.C., and Paul Hurst of Vinton; as well as several nieces and nephews, and dear family friends. She was preceded in death by her former husband, Samuel I. Coleman of Franklin County. A memorial service will be held at Valley Community Church at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 21, 1996. The Rev. Maurita Wiggins will officiate. The church is located at 5000 Carriage Drive, S.W., Roanoke, Va. (behind Oak Grove Plaza). In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mrs. Coleman's name to Annaburg Manor or the Alzheimer's Association.

COPWENHAVER, Grace Roop, 73, of Roanoke, died Sunday, September 15, 1996. She was the widow of Ellis Hall Copenhaver and is survived by her brothers, Claude B. Roop Jr., Richmond, Wallace A. Roop, Rocky Mount; her sisters, Gertrude R. Thomas, Vinton, Margaret R. Ridgeway, Roanoke; a special friend, Clara Meade, Roanoke. A private service will be held at a later date and there will be no visitation. Oakey's Vinton Chapel is handling funeral arrangements.

CRINER, Hazel Marie, 52, of Rich Creek, died Tuesday, September 17, 1996, at Giles Memorial Hospital. She is survived by a special friend, Cliff Rice, Rich Creek; a son, Tom Price; a daughter, Wanda Gail Smith; two grandchildren, Jammie and Robbie Smith, all of Blacksburg; two sisters, Lorine Criner and Joyce Criner; and a brother, Sam Criner, all of Pearisburg. DENNY, Charles Melvin, 62, of Roanoke, died Tuesday, September 17, 1996. He was the son of the late Paul I. Denny and Zenia Petty Denny and was born July 8, 1934 in Virginia. He was a retired accountant. He is survived by three daughters, Sharlee Smith, New Orleans, La., Debra LaSalle, Morston Mills, Mass., and Kristi Decker, Fort Myers, Fla.; one brother, Asa F. Denny, Salem; sister, Frances Sparks, Sandston; four grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted from the graveside Thursday, September 19, 1996 at 2 p.m. at the East Hill Cemetery. FEATHER, Paul Fred, 86, of Riner, passed away Wednesday morning, September 18, 1996, at Meadowbrook Nursing home in Shawsville. He is survived by one sister, Ella B. Simpkins, Christiansburg; five nieces and their husbands, Stella and Jim Bennett, Radford, Sarah and George Dalley, Christiansburg, Virginia and Jim Hurless, Roswell, N.M., Nell and Jim Brock, Gaithersburg, Md., Marylyn and Tom Rinn, Newbern, N.C.; two nephews and their wives, Allan and Sherry Burke, Paul and Frances Gardner, all of Christiansburg; ten great-nieces and nephews. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday from the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Dewey O. Weaver Jr. and the Rev. Greg Mullis. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery. GIBSON, Woodrow, (``Woody""), 19, of Salem, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 17, 1996. He is survived by his mother, Sandra D. Moore; his stepfather, Allen L. Moore; his father, Daniel G. Gibson; his stepmother, Debbie West; his paternal grandparents, Orson and Carlie Gibson; his maternal grandmother, Betty S. Ware, and his brothers, Danny Ray Gibson, Anthony G ibson, Allen Lane Moore and Adam Logan Moore. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Woody was a graduate of Staunton River High School. Services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, September 20, at the Lotz Roanoke Chapel. With Rev. R. L. Graves, Sr., officiating. GUMM, Warren Harding, 76, of Roanoke, died Tuesday, September 17, 1996. He had retired from the U. S. Army and The City of Roanoke Parks and Recreation Department. He is survived by his wife, Yong Nyo Gumm; his daughter, Hyo Sun Holub, Avon, N.Y.; sister, Juanita Hodges, Vinton; six grandchildren; several nieces and nephews including a special niece, Vera Gillispie and husband, Jerry, Roanoke. MILLER, Dean G., 36, of Roanoke, was freed of his ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) on Monday, September 16, 1996. He was the loving husband of Lisa; and the extraordinary father of Shane and Erin. He is survived by his father and his stepmother, Bob and Dixie Miller; and his mother and stepfather, Jane and Bill Lane; and his sister and brother-in-law, Leah and Wayne Lowe as well as many other wonderful family members and friends. Dean had the honor of being a member of the Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity at Roanoke College. He will be missed dearly but, we rejoice in the knowledge that Dean can once again walk and talk in heaven. O'CONNOR, Kenneth Gordon, (""Rushe"") 76, of Buchanan, passed away Tuesday, September 17, 1996. He was preceded in death by his parents, Larry and Virginia O'Connor; and two brothers, Ray and Joseph O'Connor. He was a Veteran of World War II where he served 4 years with the 82nd Airborne Division and was a member of the American Legion Post #93. He was retired from Burlington Industries in Glasgow, Va. He is survived by his wife, Frances C. O'Connor; one son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Betty Newcomb O'Connor, Buchanan; one daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Wayne Good, Richmond; two sisters, Madeline O'Connor and Genevieve Thrasher, both of Springwood, Va.; one brother, James O'Connor, Middletown, Penn.; three grandchildren, Carolyn O'Connor, Mitchell Ferguson, both of Buchanan, Carrie Frankart, Richmond; one great-granddaughter, Whitney Young, Roanoke; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 20, 1996 at the Springwood Baptist Church with the Rev. Harold E. Cook Jr., and Rev. Chester L. Carter officiating. PENDLETON, Polly Jo Osborne, 60, of Thaxton, died Tuesday, September 17, 1996. She is survived by her husband, Olin Pendleton; sons, Gary A. Pendleton and Randall W. (``Bill"") Pendleton, both of Thaxton; daughters, Phyllis J. Campbell of Thaxton and Wanda G. Cornelius of Alabama; six grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter. SMITH, James Edmond, 61, of Route 1, Goode, died Tuesday, September 17, 1996 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was born in Montgomery County on September 4, 1935, a son of Maxine Edna Austin Smith of Lynchburg and the late Armon Edmond Smith. James was an Army veteran, serving during the Korean War. He was a member of Mt. Hermon Baptist Church and retired from Rubatex Corp. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Phyllis Turpin Smith; daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Jesse Jay, Bedford; two sons, Mark E. Smith and fiancee, Kim Lacy, Bedford, Darrell L. and Tammie Smith, Bedford; two sisters, Odessa S. Merchent, Lynchburg, Lois S. Graham, Roanoke; one brother, Richard L. Smith, Lumberton, N.C.; mother-in-law, Elizabeth H. Turpin, Big Island; grandchildren, Beth Jay, Ryan Jay, Brash Smith, Casey Smith and Bryar Smith, all of Bedford; numerous nieces and nephews.
