Job fair targets older workers

The 1996 Older Worker Job Fair, sponsored by the Virginia Employment Commission and LOA Area Agency on Aging, is scheduled for Oct. 10 from 9 a.m. to noon. The fair will be held at the VEC building on Valley View Boulevard.

Any area employers seeking to recruit older workers are encouraged to participate for free, but reservations are required.

Byrd Class of '46 reunion set Oct. 4

Members of the William Byrd High School Class of 1946 will celebrate their first reunion in 50 years at the Vinton War Memorial on Oct. 4 and 5.

Sign-ups set for youth basketball

The Southeast Recreation Club is holding youth basketball sign-ups for ages 6 through 17.

Sign-ups will take place from 7-8 p.m. at Fallon Park Elementary School on Monday, Tuesday and Sept. 30 and Oct. 1. Late sign-ups will be held Oct. 5 and 12, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Jackson Park Concession Stand. The cost is $20 per child and $15 for each additional child per family. Parents are asked to bring a copy of each child's birth certificate.

The club is also looking for basketball coaches for several age groups.
