Job fair targets older workers

The 1996 Older Worker Job Fair, sponsored by the Virginia Employment Commission and LOA Area Agency on Aging, is scheduled for Oct. 10 from 9 a.m. to noon. The fair will be held at the VEC building on Valley View Boulevard.

Any area employers seeking to recruit older workers are encouraged to participate for free, but reservations are required.

Byrd Class of '46 reunion set Oct. 4

Members of the William Byrd High School Class of 1946 will celebrate their first reunion in 50 years at the Vinton War Memorial on Oct. 4 and 5.

Fincastle Festival set for Sept. 28-29

The 28th Annual Fincastle Festival will be held Sept. 28, 10 a.m-6 p.m. and Sept. 29, 12:30-5 p.m. The event features tours of the town and historic homes, craft demonstrations and music. Crafts, needlework and homemade jams will be on sale. A variety of foods will be available including a German beer garden and wine-tasting. Activities for children include donkey rides, games and storytelling.
