* Bedford Bancshares Inc., holding company of Bedford Federal Savings Bank, on Thursday increased its quarterly dividend from 10 cents to 11 cents a share. The dividend is payable Oct. 10 to stockholders of record Sept.30.

* The United Mine Workers began a television and radio advertising campaign this week, aimed at workers outside the coal industry. The ads began running on some television stations Monday and will begin running on the radio, including stations in the Roanoke market, next Monday. The union said they are part of its renewed emphasis on organizing, which includes intensive training of worker-organizers and a $1 million organizing fund.
