The Commonwealth Transportation Board on Thursday approved a contract worth nearly $4 million to straighten dangerous curves along the southbound lane of U.S. 220 in Roanoke County.
The 1.3-mile project will begin one-tenth of a mile north of Virginia 715 North and end two-tenths of a mile south of Virginia 715 South. The targeted curves are in an area about one-half mile south of the Back Creek bridge on U.S. 220.
English Construction Co. of Lynchburg was given the $3.97 million contract.
Several other contracts were awarded in the Virginia Department of Transportation's Salem District, including one for $239,052 to resurface and make pier repairs to the northbound bridge over U.S. 11 between Shawsville and Elliston in Montgomery County.
