Lord Botetourt took an early lead and survived a fourth-quarter comeback by Blacksburg to win 73-57 on Thursday night in a Blue Ridge District game in Blacksburg.
The Cavaliers (7-1 overall, 1-1 district) finished the first quarter with a 20-5 lead. Sara Moore, who led Lord Botetourt with 29 points, had nine in the period.
The Indians (3-6, 0-2) cut their deficit to three points in the fourth quarter, but a combination of Blacksburg turnovers and strong Lord Botetourt defense and free-throw shooting helped the Cavaliers pull away.
Aimee Bird finished with 11 points for Botetourt.
Casey Beamer and Karly Geller led Blacksburg, with 16 and 13 points, respectively.
Northside 52, Alleghany 38: The Vikings took advantage of the Mountaineers' foul trouble to win a Blue Ridge District game in Low Moor.
Point guard Katie Craft got into foul trouble in the third quarter and the Alleghany offense stalled.
Rosse Hopkins led Northside (7-1, 2-0) with 20 points.
Craft finished with 11 points for the Mountaineers (5-2, 1-1).
Glenvar 39, Covington 26: The Highlanders took advantage of 14 percent field-goal shooting by the Cougars to notch a non-district victory in Covington.
The Cougars (5-3) made only eight of 58 shots from the field and scored no more than five points in any of the first three quarters.
Amy Layman had 18 points and Erika Hale added 14 for Glenvar (5-3).
William Byrd 57, Rockbridge County 23: The Terriers bolted to a 15-point halftime lead and cruised to a Blue Ridge District victory in Lexington.
Stephanie Parnell led William Byrd (7-1) with 12 points and Andrea Gay added 10.
Rockbridge County (0-8) got 10 points from Kate Ides.
Giles 77, Craig County 24: The Spartans led by 34 points at the half and dominated the Rockets in a non-district game in Pearisburg.
Giles (3-4) was led by Kristen White's 24 points. Teammate Erin Williams added 15 points.
Craig County (0-8) was paced by Jody Harden with 11 points.
