POWER KNOCKED OUT

A wayward opossum knocked out power to several thousand American Electric Power customers in the Williamson Road area for a short time Thursday night.

The opossum wandered into a substation on Williamson and disabled some of the equipment. The lights went out about 10:20 p.m., and power was restored about 40 minutes later. An AEP spokeswoman said 4,432 customers were affected.
