GLASSED SUNROOM ADDS WARMTH TO SOUTHWEST TUDOR

The first thing you notice about Marc and Karen Wimmer's brick Tudor home in southwest Roanoke is the big plate glass window near the front door.

"We get quite a few comments about it," Karen Wimmer said.

What is now a sunroom was once a screened porch. After they moved in, the Wimmers found photographs which showed that the porch had been closed in 1985.

Although the room is tiny, it is charming, and it was one of the reasons the couple decided to buy the house. And as it turns, out the cat, Precious, likes it, too.

The Wimmers put a small butcher-block table and two chairs against the side wall of the room, and a long, low table against the back wall. The previous owners had the room filled with plants, The Wimmers, who bought the house this summer, plan to decorate with plenty of greenery, too, and maybe an aquarium.

Because it faces the street, the room is not terribly private, Karen Wimmer said, but they installed a curtain which can raised out of the way during the day and lowered at night.

The room isn't heated, but they were told by the previous owners that it stays warm year-round.

"I can't wait until it snows and we can sit in here and drink hot chocolate," Karen Wimmer said.
