ROANOKE MAN'S CAR CAUGHT IN ARSON FIRE

A Friday morning fire in a Southeast Roanoke man's car is being investigated by police as arson.

About 9 a.m., Tam Gia Phan, 20, of 1202 Dale Ave. opened the rear door of his new car. Police said a small explosion occurred, which firefighters extinguished soon afterward. The fire singed Phan's hair, but he was not seriously injured. Fire investigators said gas had been poured on the rear floorboard sometime overnight. They have not determined what sparked the fire.

Phan told police he received harassing telephone calls about three weeks ago regarding his home and cars.
